Women Doing Exercise
Women Doing Exercise
Sheikh Muqbil bin Haadee al-Waadi’ee, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked:
Question: What is the ruling of the (Islamic) legislation about the woman who carries out (physical) exercise whether in her house or outside of it?
So, he replied:
Answer: If she is in the house, then there is no problem with this, rather we advise with (doing) this. And if she has duties (to perform), then her duties take precedence – meaning the duties in her house and her home – and it is imperative that she begins with them (first). And likewise, if she is with (other) women and no strange men can see them, then there is no problem with this, if Allah wills. Rather, we advise with (doing) this because being stagnant and motionless could perhaps lead to boredom and to the weakening of the memory and to the wasting away of the body. So, every male and female Muslim is need of exercise according to the limits of the (Islamic) legislation.
