Do not be Too Happy with Yourself
Do not be Too Happy with Yourself
Ibn Hazm, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
“So, whomsoever is delighted by his (own) bravery which he places in other than its rightful place (which should be) for Allah – The Mighty and The Majestic – then he should know that the tiger is more courageous than him and that the lion, the wolf and the elephant are (all) braver than him.
And whomsoever is delighted by the strength of his (own) body, then he should know that the mule, the bull and the elephant are (all) stronger than him in body.
And whomsoever is delighted by himself carrying (heavy) weights, then he should know that the donkey is more tolerant than him in carrying heavy burdens.
And whomsoever is delighted with the speed of his running, then he should know that the dog and the rabbit are faster than him in running.
And whomsoever is delighted by the beauty of his (own) voice, then he should know than many from amongst the birds have a better sound than him…“
